Panthers Put Flyers To The Test, Drop Road Match 83-64

DAYTON, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team traveled to Division I institution, the University of Dayton, for their final game before the Holidays. The Panthers put the Flyers to the test, but ultimately fell 83-64.

  • Leading the way for the Black and Gold was senior Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) with 19 points. Stare went 9-16 from the field and grabbed two rebounds.
  • Following Stare was La'Sonja Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 18 points on the afternoon. Hill went 9-14 from the charity stripe and led the team with five assists and six rebounds.
  • The final Panther in double figures was Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) with 13 points. Mullet netted three from deep while grabbing four assists and two rebounds.
How It Happened
  • For the sixth time this season, Jenna Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) won the jump ball and scored her first three of the year in the opening seconds. Hill and Mullet followed with shots behind the arc over the next three minutes to put the Panthers ahead 9-2. The Flyers rallied and came back but ODU held the lead at the end of the period, 19-18.
  • The Flyers opened the second quarter with an 8-3 scoring run to take a 26-22 lead. Stare netted 10 points in the period, helping the Black and Gold to a 38-36 lead at the intermission after a 9-2 run.
  • The two traded buckets in the third quarter before UD went on a seven-point run to take a 52-46 lead. A pair of free throws from Shackleford and a bucket by Stare kept ODU within six heading into the final period, 58-51.
  • To start the final 10 minutes of play, Dayton jumped out to a 12-point lead after outscoring Ohio Dominican 12-4 through the first five minutes. The Panthers continued to fight, dropping their final contest before break to the Flyers, 83-64.
