ODU Captures Third Consecutive Sweep With 3-0 Victory Over TMU

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Wednesday evening, the Ohio Dominican volleyball team welcomed Thomas More University for their last home match of the regular season. The Panthers collected their third consecutive sweep with a 3-0 victory over the Saints.

  • Leading the way on the offensive end was Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) with 12 kills. The junior added 11 digs, netting another double-double on the season. Following her was Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) with nine kills. Ashley Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio) and Grace Zinchuk (Schaumburg, Ill.) both recorded seven kills.
  • In the back row, Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) led with 17 digs. Shoup added eight assists. Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) accounted for 17 assists as Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) followed with 16 assists. Kirker grabbed eight digs to Avery's six.
  • Zinchuk tallied four blocks at the net. Aselage was right behind her with three.
How It Happened
  • In the opening set, the two traded points, bringing it to 8-all. ODU then created space by winning seven of the next 10 points, making it 19-13. The Panthers extended their lead to seven, but the Saints answered with six of the next seven points, bringing it to 23-21. Ohio Dominican prevailed and ended the match on a Thomas More error, winning it 25-22.
  • The Black and Gold sprung to an early 6-2 lead and continued to build their lead to 13-8 with kills from Lucas and Peters. TMU rallied late but couldn't overcome the eight-point deficit, losing to the Panthers, 25-19.
  • ODU came out strong in the third set, first running to an 8-4 lead then growing it to 15-5. The Saints brought it within seven, 19-12, but had no answer for the Panthers as they won five of the last six points to win the set, 25-14, and the match, 3-0.
