Shoup And Keipert Honored With Sweep Over KWC

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Saturday evening, the Ohio Dominican volleyball team honored their seniors before their match against the Panthers of Ky. Wesleyan. The Black and Gold swept the Purple and White to go 2-0 over the weekend.

  • For the 25th time this season, senior Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) recorded double-digit digs. Shoup had 18 and added six assists on the night. Joining her in double figures was fellow senior Alexis Keipert (Burlington, Ky.) with 11 digs.
  • Leading the way at the net was Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) with 13 kills. Following her was Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) with 10 kills and Ashley Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio) with eight.
  • Sophomore Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) netted a team high of 20 assists. Setter Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) accounted for 17 assists and led the team with three service aces.
How It Happened
  • In the opening set, Ohio Dominican took the initial lead but lost it after a 6-0 run from Ky. Wesleyan, making it 8-4. After that, the two went back and forth before the Panthers went on a 12-3 run, winning the first set 25-16.
  • Once again, KWC ran out to an early 8-3 lead in the second set. The Purple Panthers went ahead as many as five, making it 16-11. The Black and Gold rallied, going on a late 9-1 run to take the second set, 25-20, going ahead 2-0.
  • In the third set, the two traded points until ODU broke away, taking a 19-14 lead. KWC brought it within one, but the Panthers prevailed, winning four of the last five points to finish the set on top, 25-21.
