Kirker Surpasses 1,000 Career Assists In ODU's Sweep Over Trojans

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican volleyball hosted Trevecca Nazarene to open their three-game home stint. The Black and Gold handled business, sweeping the Trojans, 3-0.

  • Leading the way for the Panthers was Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) with yet another double-double. The junior recorded 14 kills and 14 digs on the night. Lucas added two blocks and a service ace as well.
  • Once again, Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) netted double-figure digs. The senior notched 18 tonight, along with five assists. Joining her in double-digits was Alexis Keipert (Burlington, Ky.) with 11. Keipert had a team high of three service aces.
  • Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) and Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) both tallied 10+ assists. Avery led with 15 as Kirker followed with 14, pushing her over the 1,000 career assists mark.
  • At the net, Grace Zinchuk (Schaumburg, Ill.) led with five blocks. Freshman Ava Horn (Whitehouse, Ohio) added three blocks. Both middles grabbed three kills.
How It Happened
  • The Panthers came out strong, jumping to an early 8-2 lead in the opening set. ODU pushed their lead to 14-7 with kills from Horn and Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio). Ohio Dominican remained in the lead the rest of the set, taking it 25-16.
  • In the second set, the two traded points before the Black and Gold snagged three consecutive points, making it 8-5. The Trojans went on a run of their own to bring it within one. The Panthers stepped on the gas, ending the set on an 11-2 run to win it 25-15.
  • Similar to the first set, ODU went up 4-1 in the third set. TNU rallied to tie it at 9-all. The two traded points, sharing the lead the entire set. Late in the set, a kill from Lucas tied it at 21 before two Panther errors gave the Trojans a 23-22 lead. The Black and Gold pushed extra points, winning three consecutive points to win the set, 27-25 and the match, 3-0.
