Four Panthers Net Double Figures in 79-73 Home Win Over NDC

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Sunday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team returned to Alumni Hall for their last non-conference match before Great Midwest Athletic Conference play begins on Thursday. The Panthers defeated the Falcons, 79-73.

  • Leading the way for the Black and Gold was Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) with 24 points. The senior went 10-12 from the floor and a perfect 4-4 from the charity stripe. She added two assists and a steal.
  • Following her was La'Sonja Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio) with 20 points. The freshman had four threes while dishing out three assists. Fellow freshman, Jenna Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) netted 13 points and a team high of five rebounds. Shackleford also matched a team high of four assists.
  • The last player in double figures was Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) with 10 points. The junior grabbed a pair of three-pointers and three assists. Sophomore, Macy Chapman (Hilliard, Ohio) matched Shackleford with four assists.
How It Happened
  • In the opening period, the two went bucket for bucket with the Falcons having the slight edge over the Panthers, going on an 11-2 run in the final two minutes. NDC ended the period on top, 27-16.
  • Mullet snagged a three to begin the second period. The Black and Gold continued to trail but ended on a 9-4 scoring run to cut their deficit to six, making it 35-29 at the half.
  • In the third quarter, Hill secured 10 points as the Panthers outscored the Falcons, 18-13. The Black and Gold chipped away at their deficit again, this time bringing it within three going into the final quarter, making it 50-47.
  • In the final 10 minutes, ODU opened with nine consecutive points to take the lead for the first time, making it 56-50 with 6:53 left to play. NDC tried to regain their lead but back-to-back buckets from Stare gave Ohio Dominican a 71-60 lead. Despite Notre Dame going on a 13-8 run in the final two minutes, the Black and Gold secured their first home win, 79-73.
