Black And Gold Drop Home Opener To Lakers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team hosted the Lakers of Mercyhurst University on Thanksgiving Eve. A strong fourth quarter gave the Lakers a 60-48 win over the Panthers.

  • The Black and Gold were led by senior Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) with 22 points on the afternoon. Stare shot 50 percent from the field, making eight of 16 and went 6-7 from the free throw line. The senior added seven rebounds and four assists.
  • In her first game this season, Logan Pride (Twinsburg, Ohio) snagged six points in her 10 minutes of play. Both Macy Chapman (Hilliard, Ohio) and La'Sonja Hill (Cincinnati, Ohio) netted five points. Chapman added three rebounds and a steal to Hill's two assists.
How It Happened
  • Mercyhurst opened the game with a three pointer in the opening seconds, followed by a Madelyn Fearon (Greenville, Ohio) three. The two went back and forth until the Lakers took a three-point lead to end the quarter.
  • In the second quarter, Chapman and Stare combined for ten points to keep the Panthers within four points heading into the intermission, making it 27-23.
  • Coming out of halftime, MU went on an eight to two run to snag a 10-point lead over ODU with 5:37 left to play. The Black and Gold chipped away to cut their deficit to seven, 39-32, while heading into the final quarter.
  • In the first four minutes, the Lakers outscored the Panthers 10-4, extending their lead to 49-35. Despite 10 points from Stare in the final six minutes, the Black and Gold couldn't come from behind, dropping their home opener, 60-48.
