Panthers Push Past Miners Behind 17 Points From Chapman

LEBANON, Ill. – On Saturday evening, the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team finished off their opening weekend with a neutral site game against Missouri S&T. The Panthers secured their first win of the season, topping the Miners, 63-53.

  • Leading the way for the Black and Gold tonight was Macy Chapman (Hilliard, Ohio) with 17 points. The sophomore went 7-10 from the field, snagging six steals and two rebounds.
  • Following her was Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) with 14 points, and Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) with 11 points. Mullet shot 50 percent from behind the arc with Stare leading the team with five rebounds and five assists.
  • Sophomore Sarah Ochs (Beavercreek, Ohio) netted seven points while freshman Nelia Guice (Westerville, Ohio) grabbed five rebounds and four points.
How It Happened
  • The Miners came out to a strong start, taking an early 8-0 lead through the first four minutes. The Panthers responded with a nine to five scoring run to end the quarter down four, making it 13-9.
  • Chapman started the second period with back-to-back buckets to tie it at 13-all. S&T added nine straight points before Chapman broke up their run with a three pointer to bring the score to 22-18 midway through the quarter. The Black and Gold had a six-point swing to take the lead, but the Miners responded and tied it at 29-all going into the break.
  • In the third quarter, Missouri S&T took a five-point lead, but a jumper from Guice made it even at 38. Four free-throws and a layup from Stare gave ODU a 44-42 lead to enter the final 10 minutes.
  • Jenna Shackleford (Newark, Ohio) and Ochs netted buckets in the opening minutes of the fourth to give the Panthers a six-point lead. Ohio Dominican went up as many as nine before S&T cut their deficit to five. Mullet netted a pair of threes and free throws late, pushing ODU's lead to 10, securing a 63-53 victory.
