Black And Gold Drop Road Match At Ashland, 3-1

ASHLAND, Ohio – On Saturday evening, the Ohio Dominican volleyball team traveled to Ashland University. The Eagles soared past the Panthers, 3-1.

Box Score Notes
  • Junior Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) led the way with 12 kills on the night. The outside hitter added eight digs and a service ace. Following her was Ashley Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio) with eight kills and five blocks.
  • Once again, Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) recorded 20 digs on the night. Shoup grabbed two assists and a service ace. Senior Alexis Keipert (Burlington, Ky.) netted nine digs with Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) adding 13 digs.
  • Kirker grabbed a double-double with 10 assists. Leading her was Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) with 21 assists on the night. Avery notched three service aces; a team high on the evening.
  • Sophomore Bailey Christiansen (Delaware, Ohio) accounted for six of the teams 18 assisted blocks.
How It Happened
  • The Eagles jumped out to a 15-6 lead in the first set. They added four consecutive points to push their lead to 20-9. The Panthers brought it within eight but lost the opening set 25-15.
  • The two traded points in the second set before Ashland went on a 7-0 run, making it 14-7. A four-point swing for the Black and Gold brought them with two. The Purple and Gold remained strong and finished the set on a seven to two run, winning 25-19.
  • In the third set, the Eagles ran out to a 12-7 lead. The Panthers rallied, tying it at 20-all with a service ace from Shoup. Lucas tallied two kills in the final seven points, giving ODU a 25-23 lead, making it 2-1 in sets.
  • Roles reversed in the fourth set with Ohio Dominican taking a 5-1 lead. Ashland answered with a nine to one run, taking a 10-6 lead. Back-to-back service aces from Avery gave ODU a one-point lead. The two continued to go back and forth, pushing extra points with Ashland winning, 26-24.
