Hillsdale Charges Past Panthers In Three Sets

HILLSDALE, Mich. – On Saturday afternoon, the Ohio Dominican volleyball team continued on the road with a trip to Hillsdale College. The Chargers swept the Panthers in three sets.

  • In the three sets, Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) grabbed 12 digs, keeping up with her double figure dig streak. The senior added two service aces as well. Following her was Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) with seven digs and Lauren Dinunzi (Louisville, Ky.) with six.
  • Leading the way at the net was Ashley Aselage (Tipp City, Ohio) with nine kills and three blocks. Behind her was Lucas with seven kills and Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) with five.
  • Freshman Macie Bowden (Selma, Ind.) got her shot in the setter position, playing in three sets, collecting 17 assists. Sophomore Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) recorded six assists.
How It Happened
  • In the opening set, the Chargers came out dominant, taking an 11-4 lead. Hillsdale continued to lead, ending the set on a nine to two run, winning it 25-10.
  • Similar to the first set, HC ran out to an early 15-4 lead in the second set. The Panthers brought it within eight with kills from Aselage and a service ace from Shoup, making it 20-12. ODU added a three-point run late but dropped the second set 25-15, giving the Chargers a 2-0 lead.
  • In the third set, the two traded points until Hillsdale won five consecutive points to take a 13-7 lead. Ohio Dominican went on a five to one run, bringing their deficit to 15-13. The Panthers kept it within two points but the Chargers remained dominant, pulling ahead off of a few ODU errors to win the third set, 25-20.
