Volleyball Bested By Timberwolves, 3-1

MIDLAND, Mich. – On Friday evening, the Ohio Dominican volleyball team went back to conference play with a road trip to Northwood University. The Panthers battled but lost to the Timberwolves, 3-1.

Box Score Notes
  • Once again, Kelsey Shoup (Dalton, Ohio) netted double figure digs with 23. The senior added three assists and a kill. Following her was Alexis Keipert (Burlington, Ky.) with 11 digs. Keipert added two service aces and two assists.
  • Notching another double double was Lauren Lucas (Grove City, Ohio) with 14 kills and 10 digs. Behind Lucas was Jenna Peters (Vermilion, Ohio) with nine kills. Lucas has three blocks to Peters one. Sophomore Grace Zinchuk (Schaumburg, Ill.) led with six blocks.
  • Setter Gabrielle Kirker (Tallmadge, Ohio) tallied 24 assists with Saige Avery (Yorkville, Ill.) accounting for 13 assists. Kiker had eight digs on the nights.
How It Happened
  • The two traded points in the opening set with Northwood pulling ahead 10-8 after a four-point swing. The Timberwolves extended their lead tp 17-12 with another run. Ohio Dominican tied it at 18-all with a 6-1 scoring run. Late in the set, both teams took runs to grab the lead, tying it at 25-25, forcing extra points. The Timbies won the final three points to take the first set, 28-26.
  • The Panthers ran out to an early 8-4 lead in the second set. Kills from Zinchuk and Lucas, along with a service ace from Avery gave ODU a 17-9 lead. NU brought it within three but the Black and Gold remained strong, winning the second set 25-19.
  • Roles were reversed in the third set with Northwood taking a 5-1 lead in the beginning. A six-point swing pushed the Timberwolves ahead, 11-3. NU's lead grew to as many as 10 points before ODU won four consecutive points to bring it to 18-12. The Timbies remained in the lead for the remainder of the set, winning it 25-17, going ahead, 2-1.
  • Ohio Dominican took a 4-2 lead in the fourth set but Northwood answered with a run of their own, taking to 13-9 lead. The Panthers collected a kill and two blocks to come within one before NU grabbed eight of the next nine points, going ahead 22-14. The Black and Gold rallied late with four points, making it 23-20, but the Timberwolves won the final two points, winning it 25-20.
