SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Ohio Dominican Panthers indoor track and field team raced at the Steemer Center at Wittenberg University for the second time this season, this time at the Steemer Showcase on Saturday (Jan. 28).
ODU totaled one NCAA provisional mark, six top five finishes and seven personal bests.
WOMEN
Brooke Armbrust (Grove City, Ohio) ran a NCAA Provisional mark in the 60 meter finals, a 7.66 second race, better than her 7.78 prelim time that was the fastest time. She finished second overall in the final rankings.
Molly Van Horn (Granville, Ohio) set a personal best in the 400 meters with a third place finish, a top time of 58.76 seconds - nearly a second better than her season best in that event.
Grace Pitt hit a 500 meter PR with a debut time of 1:35.32, ranking seventh overall.
G'nae Morrison (San Antonio, Texas) ended the 60 meter prelims with 8.20 seconds next to her name in 16th place.
Nikane Ambos (Wapakoneta, Ohio) timed out at 1:05.26 in her 400 meter run, just below her 400 time from last week.
Kassydee Owens (Harlan, Kentucky) set a 200 meter PR at 28.04 seconds.
Kelsey Shaffer (Spencerville, Ohio) bettered her 800 meter personal best by three tenths of a second with a 2:52.23 time.
Jaclyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) made her 3000 meter season debut, running 12:11.11 while her sister Jeralyn Strawn (Lancaster, Ohio) ran the 5K in 21:05.55.
Marie Pascaline Ndayishimye and Jadelyn McNerney (Springboro, Ohio) had best throws of 8.43 meters and 8.26 meters in the shot put.
MEN
Eugene Boahen battled through the 60 meter preliminaries with the third best time of 7.05 seconds to earn a spot in the finals. Boahen finished second overall with a 6.91 second time. Boahen added a 22.33 second time in the 200 meters, a fourth place finish.
Owen Wilhelm (Sunbury, Ohio) finished fifth in the high jump, hitting 1.84 meters on his third try. He clocked in at 24.55 seconds for his 200 meter time later in the day.
Ismael Obas (Columbus, Ohio) earned a fifth place finish in the long jump, reaching 6.54 meters on his last result. In the 60 meter prelims, Obas hit a PR with 7.33 seconds.
Manny Codjoe (Bolingbrook, Illinois) set a season best with a 7.19 second prelim time in the 60 meters - the 13th best prelim mark.
In the 400 meters, ODU had a trio of runners compete. Blake Wilson finished with a 52.21 second time in 18th place, Aly Diaby was 21st with a time of 52.70 seconds. Jaivien Steele (Cleveland, Ohio) stopped the clock at 55.72 seconds.
Marcus Steele (Columbus, Ohio) was the best of the Ohio Dominican group in the 800 meters as he was 20th with a 2:02.22 time, with Jacob Krous (Galena, Ohio) not far behind at 2:03.65 in 25th place. Landon Latham (Westland, Michigan) ended the race in 2:12.98.
Merrick Shorter (Dublin, Ohio) and Ethan Sinning (Tipp City, Ohio) set personal bests in the 5k with respective times of 15:51.66 and 15:54.94, both placing in the top 20.
Edward Devaney (Lexington, Ohio) shaved nearly 17 seconds off his PR in the mile at 5:11.80.
M. Steele, Krous, Latham and Devaney combined for a 3:47.15 time in the 4x400 relay, slotting 14th overall.
Tyler Hampton made his debut in the shot put, reaching a best mark of 12.28 meters.
Benjamin Seely (Chesterton, Indiana) participated in the 60 meter prelims with a mark of 7.48 seconds.
The Panthers will test out the future site of the Great Midwest Championships at Ashland as they will compete at the Jud Logan Light Giver Open on February 4th and 5th.
