Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team concluded its regular-season home schedule with a clash against #15 Walsh University on Thursday evening. The Black and Gold fought hard but fell 68-54.
Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) finished with 25 points and Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) finished with 15 on the evening.
Walsh opened the game with a 6-0 scoring run and jumped out to an early lead. A three-point jumper from Schlabach cut the lead to a 6-3 advantage and sparked a 5-0 run in retaliation. Stare converted a layup inside the paint with 6:48 remaining to cut the advantage to 6-5.
ODU captured its first lead of the contest when Schlabach drained a three-pointer to make it 14-12 with 2:44 remaining in the opening frame. Schlabach added another basket and combined with freshman Kayla McClendon (Columbus, Ohio) to give the Panthers a 19-14 advantage to close the first quarter.
The Black and Gold built on its first-quarter advantage and expanded it to as much as 10 points in the second quarter. Stare led all Panther players in scoring with seven points to close the first half. Her basket with 6:31 remaining gave the Black and Gold its largest lead of the opening half. Walsh closed the gap to just one point but a late run from the Panthers gave the hosts a 37-30 lead at the break.
Walsh opened the second half on an 8-0 run and recaptured the lead to jump ahead 38-37. ODU scored the next five points off another run spurred by Stare. Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) added a three-pointer to give the Panthers a 45-40 advantage before the media timeout. Both teams traded punches throughout the latter portion of the third quarter with the Cavaliers gaining the advantage heading into the final frame.
Stare cut the visitors lead to one point with a floating layup in the paint early in the fourth quarter. Walsh answered with a five-point swing driven by Morgan McMillen and Megan Ball. The Cavaliers swelled their lead to 10 points as Ball converted a layup off a turnover. The visitors continued to add to their advantage and downed the Black and Gold 68-54.
