COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio Dominican softball continues its campaign this weekend traveling south to Kentucky to compete in the 2022 Blue Bridge Battle hosted by Kentucky Wesleyan College. The tournament features 15 teams from various conferences around the region. ODU joins Ashland University, Cedarville University, and Trevecca Nazarene as the representatives from the G-MAC for the battle in the Bluegrass State.
The Black and Gold claimed a 15-5 victory over Davenport University during last weekend's trip to Tennessee. Braxton Downs (Louisville, Kentucky) went 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI during the contest. Olivia Rettke (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out three batters.
Several other Panthers enjoyed their trip to the Volunteer State. Sophomore Alexis Stevens (Marion, Ohio) hit for a .500 average with two doubles and three RBI. Kaleigh Golden (Thornville, Ohio) also enjoyed a great week at the plate. The first-year player collected five hits and key RBIs throughout the weekend. She is currently the second-best hitter in the G-MAC with a .500 batting average in the season.
Once the Black and Gold reach the basepaths they remain a threat as well. Madison Shemwell (Owensboro, Kentucky) is the third-best base stealer in the conference swiping five bags this campaign. Teammate Allison Madden (Cincinnati, Ohio) is the fourth-best baserunner, stealing four bases.
