COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team received 18 points each from Arius Jones (Lansing, Mich.) and Alek West (Sylvania, Ohio), but a balanced Walsh scoring attack spoiled the Panthers' Senior Night festivities in the 2021-22 home finale, 77-64.

The 18-point performance sets a new career high mark for Jones, who made 7-of-9 field goal attempts. Jones also picked up his second career double-double, pacing ODU on the glass with 10 rebounds. West flirted with what would have been his third triple-double of the season before finishing with 18 points, eight rebounds and nine assists. 

Ohio Dominican recognized its lone senior prior to the start of the game, Caleb Strohmeier (Edwardsville, Ill.). Strohmeier appeared in his 72nd game with the Panthers and scored nine points on 4-for-5 shooting in the start Thursday evening. The senior added seven rebounds and played a season-high 29 minutes. 

ODU also received 10 points and six rebounds from Nate Webb (Lafayette, Ind.). Webb has now scored in double figures in four of the past five outings.  

Walsh jumped out to an early lead, scoring on its first two possessions. ODU though, held the Cavs without a point for over four minutes and led 7-5 just over five minutes into the action. 

Walsh enjoyed the largest advantage of the first half, six points, but the Panthers shook off a cold shooting start by making five of their final nine field goal attempts of the session. ODU closed its deficit to 29-28 at the intermission. 

To start the second half, the Cavs made five of their first six shots and raced out to a 40-32 lead, forcing an ODU timeout at the 17:02. The Panthers trailed by double figures for the first time at the 15:12 mark, 46-36. 

ODU was forced into 14-of-34 shooting in the second half, including 3-for-18 from behind the arc, as Walsh led by as many as 17 points down the stretch. The closest the Black & Gold could claw back to was 10 points with just over one minute remaining. 

The Panthers will close out the 2021-22 season at Malone, with a 3 p.m. tip on Saturday, Feb. 26.
