Box Score COLUMBUS - The Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team hosted the Tiffin Dragons for the Great Midwest home opener on Saturday (Dec. 3) at Alumni Hall.
Despite a season-high 22 points from Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio), the Panthers fell to the Dragons 72-56. The Panthers are now 2-5 overall and 0-2 in Great Midwest play.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Szul hit ten of his 17 shots from the floor, including a pair of three pointers. He added six rebounds and three assists. Szul scored 13 points in the second half.
- Kevin James (Massillon, Ohio) started for the first time and scored 11 points on five-of-ten shooting. James grabbed four rebounds with two offensive boards.
- Marcus Johnson (Columbus, Ohio) returned to the starting lineup with eight points.
- Jarius Jones (Gahanna, Ohio) put eight points up off the bench.
- Ohio Dominican shot 40% from the floor (24-60), while making four three pointers of ten attempts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Szul opened the game with a three pointer before Johnson followed with a jumper, giving ODU a 5-2 lead two minutes in.
- James scored the next three baskets as the Panthers continued to push the lead to five points three different times.
- The Panthers led 13-12 with 12:58 left before Tiffin ended the first half with a 28-10 run. The Dragons led 40-23 at halftime.
- A three pointer by Jones put the Panthers down 47-33 with 14:53 left in the game.
- Twice more in the game, Ohio Dominican got within 14 points - a Johnson layup with 9:25 left and a Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) three with one minute to go on the clock.
UP NEXT
- After four straight home games, the Panthers will head on the road for the first time in three weeks. Ohio Dominican will open Great Midwest play at Walsh on Thursday (Dec. 1) at 7:30 PM.
