COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team is set to tip-off the 2022-23 season from their home court this weekend.
The Black and Gold begin the new campaign at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 11, hosting GLIAC opponent Ferris State at Alumni Hall.
Opening Tip-Off
- Ohio Dominican enters its 13th season as an NCAA Division II program and its 6th season as a member of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference.
- The Panthers ended the 2021-22 season 5-23 overall and 5-17 in conference play.
- Ohio Dominican was chosen 11th in the Preseason G-MAC Coaches' Poll.
- Dating back to 2010 (DII era), the Black and Gold have gone 4-0 in home season openers.
- ODU returns six players from a season ago including leading scorer Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio). Stare was recognized with Second Team All-Conference accolades last season. She averaged 16.1 PPG and five rebounds per game.
- Among the returners includes sophomore Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) and junior Camryn Pickerill (Seaman, Ohio). In her freshman campaign, Mullet averaged 9.7 PPG and led the team with 1.3 steals per game.
- The Panthers welcome eight newcomers, including NJCAA transfer Nia Johnson (Holland, Ohio).
- In the exhibition against Wright State (Oct. 29), Johnson and Stare led Ohio Dominican with eight points apiece.
- Freshman Macy Chapman (Hilliard, Ohio) grabbed six points, two steals, and two assists for the Black and Gold against the Raiders.
About Ferris State
- The Bulldogs finished the 2021-22 regular season with a 20-10 overall record and a 13-7 mark in GLIAC play.
- FSU were GLIAC North Division regular season champions as well as GLIAC tournament champions, giving them an automatic berth to the NCAA Division II tournament.
- Ferris State returns three of their top five scorers from a season ago in Kadyn Blanchard (14.6 PPG), Chloe Idoni (11.8 PPG), and Mallory McCartney (10.2 PPG).
- The Bulldogs will welcome Division I transfer sophomore Kenzie Bowers. Bowers totaled 89 points and 79 rebounds in her freshman campaign, as a Redbird.
- FSU was picked to finish second in the Preseason GLIAC Coaches' Poll. The Bulldogs are currently receiving votes in the WBCA DII Top 25 Coaches Poll and are ranked 24th in the D2SIDA Coaches Poll.
