Box Score COLUMBUS - In the final game before Great Midwest play starts on Thursday (Dec. 1), the Ohio Dominican Panthers men's basketball team hosted the Concord University Mountain Lions on Monday (Nov. 28) night.
The Panthers fought from down five in the first overtime to force a second extra period with a buzzer beater three pointer. Ohio Dominican fell 90-85 in double overtime, falling to 2-3 on the season.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Three players ended in double figures for the contest.
- Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) was tied for the team lead with 17 points on seven made field goals. The junior hit his only three pointer as the first overtime was concluding, forcing five extra minutes for the game. Szul had five rebounds and converted both of his free throw attempts.
- Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) was tied with Szul for the team-best in scoring. The senior knocked down five threes for 17 points to go with four rebounds, two assists and two steals.
- Jarius Jones (Gahanna, Ohio) was the third Panther in double figures with 14 points in the scoring column. Jones had four field goals made with two threes and four free throws.
- Nate Webb (Lafayette, Indiana) gave the Panthers nine points and nine rebounds in his first start of the year.
- Caleb Laurich (Akron, Ohio) added six points on a pair of treys and six rebounds in 18 minutes of action. He secured the only rejection on the Panthers defense tonight.
- Matt Hall (Evanston, Illinois) neared a triple-double with seven points, seven rebounds and a career-high six assists.
- Overall, the Panthers shot 36.7% (29-79) for the game from the floor, including 57.1% (8-14) in the two overtime periods.
- Ohio Dominican hit a season-high 13 threes of 36 attempts.
- The Panthers entered the game shooting 51% from the free throw line and ODU made 14-of-18 attempts on Monday night.
- The game was tied 11 times and the lead changed 11 times.
- Both teams had 46 rebounds, as ODU reached a season-high. The Panthers outrebounded the Mountain Lions with 13 offensive boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In a low scoring first half, the Panthers and Mountain Lions battled throughout the first half.
- Ohio Dominican opened a four-point lead twice in the first four minutes before the Panthers led 12-9 after the under-12 media timeout.
- Concord rallied with a 7-0 run to take a 16-12 lead with 9:36 left in the half.
- The Panthers pulled within one a few times before the Black and Gold tied the game twice in the last 1:24 of game action.
- Ethan Haynes (Florence, Kentucky) made it 27-27 with a three pointer in the final seconds of the half. The game was tied at 27 after the first 20 minutes.
- Ohio Dominican took the lead twice early in the second half before Concord took back the lead and made it a 38-33 game with 15:52 left in regulation.
- Two minutes later, the Panthers tied the game at 40 after Marcus Johnson (Columbus, Ohio) split a pair of free throws.
- The game remained close as Concord led by as many as four, but the Panthers didn't go away quietly. Trailing 46-45, Kevin James (Massillon, Ohio) hit back-to-back scores to put the Panthers back in front 49-47 with 8:54 left.
- Three minutes later, a Matt Hall layup gave the Panthers their biggest lead, 55-49 at the 6:22 mark.
- Concord pushed themselves to tie the game at 61 with a free throw with 27 seconds left, ending regulation with a 12-6 run.
- The first overtime started with Concord expanding the lead twice to six points (71-65) with 1:39 left to go. Sean Marks began the final push with a three pointer before Concord made two free throws. Jarius Jones added another three with seven seconds left to make it a 73-71 deficit.
- After a missed second free throw, Zach Szul beat the horn with a running three pointer from the left wing. The game went to double overtime, tied at 74.
- Sean Marks tied the game at 77 one minute into overtime but the Mountain Lions maintained the lead throughout the rest of the game, winning 90-85.

- After four straight home games, the Panthers will head on the road for the first time in three weeks. Ohio Dominican will open Great Midwest play at Walsh on Thursday (Dec. 1) at 7:30 PM.
