Black And Gold Welcome West Liberty Before Traveling To Saginaw Valley

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The home stretch continues for the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team on Wednesday (Nov. 16) welcoming West Liberty to Sunbury Road. On Saturday (Nov. 19), the Panthers will hit the road for the first time this season, taking on GLIAC opponent Saginaw Valley State.

The Black and Gold opened the season Friday night (Nov. 11) with Ferris State. The Bulldogs took home a 75-69 win over the Panthers, leaving ODU 0-1 on the season thus far.

Opening Tip-Off

  • Leading the way against FSU was freshman guard Macy Chapman (Hilliard, Ohio) with 16 points, going 6-8 from the field.
  • Junior Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) was right behind her with 14 points. Stare added four rebounds and three assists for the Black and Gold.
  • Fellow guard, Madelyn Fearon (Greenville, Ohio) came out in the second half grabbing 12 points while shooting 50 percent. Freshman Trinity Ramos (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) notched 11 points while going 5-5 from the field and 1-1 from behind the arc.
  • Fearon and Ramos combined for seven assists and three of the team's five steals.
  • Sophomore Kayla McClendon (Columbus, Ohio) snagged a quiet 10 points in 19 minutes of play.
  • Around the rim, Shannon Wojciak (Medina, Ohio) collected six of ODU's 25 rebounds on the game.

About West Liberty

  • The Hilltoppers are 1-1 in their 2022-23 campaign. West Liberty lost their season opener to California (Pa.) (70-67) and defeated Mercyhurst the next day (108-107).
  • WL returned four of its top five scorers from a season ago. Senior Arriana Manzay dropped 38 points in the win against Mercyhurst.
  • Sophomore guard Karly McCutcheon averaged 13.7 points in her freshman career. McCutcheon collected 30 points against Mercyhurst.
  • West Liberty is receiving votes in the D2SIDA Atlantic Regional Poll.

About Saginaw Valley

  • The Cardinals are also 1-1 on the season after playing G-MAC competitors Northwood and Findlay. SVSU lost in Midland, Mich. 69-50 on Friday (Nov. 11) but turned around and defeated the Oilers 68-57 on Saturday (Nov. 12).
  • Saginaw Valley returns two of their top four scorers from the 2021-22 season in Kaitlyn Zarycki and Tori DePerry.
  • Zarycki scored a combined 33 points from the two games and DePerry added a combined 37 points.

Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM from Alumni Hall on Wednesday and for 1:00 PM on Saturday from the James E. O'Neil Jr. Arena in University Center, Michigan.
