Box Score ASHLAND, Ohio -- The Ohio Dominican football team battled another ranked foe, the Ashland Eagles - ranked sixth in the AFCA Top 25 and 11th in the D2 Football Poll on Saturday (Oct. 15) at Jack Miller Stadium/Martinelli Field.
After leading most of the first three quarters, the Eagles rallied for a 14-7 win over the Panthers as Ohio Dominican fell to 4-3 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
BOX SCORE NOTES
- Ashland led the total offense battle 416-206 as Ohio Dominican totaled 115 rushing yards and 91 passing yards.
- Jake Byrd (Fort Wayne, Indiana) finished ten-of-21 passing for 91 yards.
- Travis Whittaker (Gahanna, Ohio) led the Panthers on the ground, tallying 91 yards and one rushing touchdown.
- Austin Davis (Wooster, Ohio) had four catches for 29 yards while Andrew Wolf (Ashland, Ohio) made two catches for 51 yards in his homecoming.
- Harris Nichols (Plainfield, Indiana) punted the ball nine times for an average of 39.7 yards, including a long punt of 52 yards and four punts to pin the Eagles inside the 20-yard line.
- Eddie Miller-Garrett (Newark, NJ) made a career-high ten tackles, with two tackles for loss and one sack.
- Logan Tate (Gambier, Ohio) had nine tackles in the game while Jayden Hill (Gahanna, Ohio) finished with eight tackles.
- Daishaun Hill (Rocky River, Ohio) came away with his second career interception. AJ Crider (Clinton, Pa.) had a sack and forced fumble in the game. Blaine Swartzmiller (Attica, Ohio) recovered the fumble, forced by Crider.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ashland's first drive ended in a fourth down stop as Eddie Miller-Garrett and Jaylin Garner (Shaker Heights, Ohio) combined on a tackle for loss.
- Two plays later, Travis Whittaker scored on a 35-yard touchdown run as Ohio Dominican drew first blood with 11:47 left in the first period.
- Ashland missed a field goal attempt on the next drive as the game remained 7-0 throughout the rest of the first half.
- The Eagles tied the game in the third quarter on a 31-yard touchdown pass with 2:18 left on the clock.
- The game-winning score came with 1:47 to go as a six-yard touchdown run was the difference maker.
