Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team returned home to Alumni Hall for the first time in 2022 and grabbed a 69-53 victory against Lake Erie College on Thursday evening. The victory gives the Panthers a modest two-game winning streak at Sunbury Road.
Just five days removed from her 18 point performance against Kentucky Wesleyan, senior forward Bailey Williams (Dublin, Ohio) set another career-high scoring mark, tallying 21 points. Guard Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) tallied 19 points during the second half and shot an impressive 7-of-12 from the field en route to a game-high 24 points. She finished just one point shy of her season-best 25 points which she captured against Trevecca Nazarene just three days ago.
Lake Erie opened the contest up on a 3-0 run as junior Alexis Lehmkul scored a layup and converted her free throw to give the visitors an early lead. The Storm advantage would get as high as five points as Williams went to work securing the first Panther points of the contest. She along with Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) and Schlabach orchestrated a 6-2 run that brought the Black and Gold level at 9-9 heading into the first media time out of the opening quarter.
Stare and Williams combined to get the Panther lead as high as four points to give the hosts a 15-11 advantage at the end of the first period.
Freshman Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) tallied an important seven points during the second quarter. She collected four points during the latter portions of the half as she made back-to-back layups in the final 90 seconds to bring the Black and Gold within three points at the break.
The ODU offense exploded in the second half as Schlabach opened the third quarter with a three-point field goal to tie the game at 30-30. She tallied 11 points in the period, going 4-of-7 from the field and 3-of-5 from downtown. Schlabach added a punctuation mark to her performance in the third quarter as she made a three-point shot on the near side in the face of a defender with 15 seconds left in the period.
ODU continued to extend its lead into the fourth when Mullet swiped an inbound pass and scored a fast-break layup the other way to increase the lead to 12 points. The lead swelled to 17 points when Gabby Stare drove into the paint and converted a layup. Lake Erie cut the lead down to 13 points but a late three-point field goal lifted the Black and Gold to a 16 point advantage and the win.
Following the game Bailey Williams and Kennedy Schlabach spoke with Assistant Sports Information Director Ralph Schudel.
