Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team increased its unbeaten streak to two games by way of a 1-1 draw against Ashland University on Thursday evening at Sunbury Road.
The match began with a calm ebb and flow as both teams traded possession in the midfield and zero fouls were called on either team through the first half-hour of play. Ashland midfielder Emily Mark collected the first two scoring opportunities for the visitors as she attempted to beat goalkeeper Jadelyn McNerney (Springboro, Ohio) but both of her attempts were off target.
Eagles forward McKinley Mendenhall forced the first save from the Panthers backstop in the 24th minute as her shot forced McNerney to drop and trap the ball to prevent a rebound.
Just one minute later sophomore forward Alex Garver (Springboro, Ohio) navigated her way behind the AU defense as she received a pass from teammate Callan Myers (Hillsboro, Ohio) and touched the ball past the diving goalkeeper to give ODU a 1-0 advantage.
The Black and Gold carried that lead into halftime, and it lasted into the 51st minute. Mark tallied her goal as she beat McNerney on her fourth shot attempt of the game to level the score at 1-1.
Neither team could claim the lead as overtime was needed to decide a winner. Despite both clubs possessing potent offenses, neither team could grab the game-winning goal and the match finished in a draw.
GARVER GETS HER GOAL
Garver's goal in the 25th minute was her first collegiate goal and one that has been a long time coming. The second-year Panther appeared to score her first career goal earlier this spring in a clash against Tiffin University but the play was incorrectly whistled dead after a late offside call from the assistant referee.
UP NEXT
The Panthers return to action on Sunday afternoon, traveling to Northeast Ohio where they will battle Lake Erie College. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 PM.
