Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team battled visiting Malone University for 110 pressure-packed minutes but fell to the Pioneers 5-4 in a penalty kick shootout during Saturday's Great Midwest Athletic Conference quarterfinal.
The Panthers outshot Malone by a margin of 17-12 throughout the contest, with nine shots landing on target. The best scoring chance for the Black and Gold came in the 98th minute. Both teams amped up the physicality and with much of the team bunched up on the far-side, ODU switched the play to midfielder Makenna Greer (Pickerington, Ohio).
The sophomore took a touch and was in one-on-one with the goalkeeper. She unleashed a shot, but it was just inches over the bar as the anxious crowd inside of Panther Stadium held its breath.
Neither team could find a goal during the overtime period and penalty kicks were needed. Senior goalkeeper Alivia Tavernier (Bellbrook, Ohio) made a critical save against Malone's Alexa Langenfeld, but the Black and Gold could not muster a response and fell 5-4 in penalties.
