Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomore Makenna Greer (Pickerington, Ohio) scored her first career game-winning goal in the 75th minute as Ohio Dominican women's soccer defeated Malone University 1-0 on Saturday evening.
Greer's goal is her first since September 2019 when she scored in her collegiate debut on the road against the University of Illinois-Springfield. It also marks her first point since she assisted on a game-tying goal from Ci'ara Crosby (Ashland, Ohio) against Cedarville in November 2019.
It was a physical match with both clubs combining for 18 fouls. The Black and Gold outshot the Pioneers by a margin of 12-6.
Sophomore Emily Wittekind (Cincinnati, Ohio) tried her luck from distance with a couple of diving shots early in the second half, but they were saved by the MU goalkeeper Jessica Morgan.
ODU finally broke down the difficult Malone defense in the 75th minute. Sophomore Callan Myers (Hillsboro, Ohio) took a hard shot just inside of the penalty area that pinged around dangerously for a few seconds. This allowed Greer to sneak up from her wing position and chest the rebound into the net to give her team the advantage and the win.
The victory ensures that ODU will host a quarterfinal match in the 2021 Great Midwest Athletic Conference women's soccer championship. The opponent and times for the match will be determined in the coming days.
