Second Half Slump Sinks Men's Basketball at Trevecca

Box Score

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team could not overcome a cold shooting second half, dropping a Great Midwest contest at Trevecca Nazarene Thursday evening, 63-54.

INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS

  • Freshman Mitch Wilkinson (Grand Rapids, Mich.) scored a career-high 14 points on 4-for-6 shooting. Wilkinson was 3-for-4 from deep and battled a pair of seven-footers defensively, pitching in five rebounds and three steals.

  • Sophomore Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) scored nine of his 11 points in the first half, making three triples in the game.

  • Getting his first start in just the second appearance of 2020-21, sophomore Alek West (Sylvania, Ohio) tallied nine points, while also leading ODU in rebounds (6) and assists (4).

  • Off the bench, freshman Jack Townsend (Odon, Ind.) scored a career high with nine points, going 3-for-4 from behind the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first half saw six lead changes and with a strong shooting effort from behind the arc, 7-for-13 (.581), ODU was able to take a 29-26 lead into the break.

  • Wilkinson knocked down a three pointer for the last field goal of the first half at the 1:51 mark to give the Panthers the halftime advantage.

  • Trevecca (3-12, 3-10 G-MAC) though, scored the first seven points en route to a 13-3 run to start the second half. The Trojans led 39-32 just over five minutes into the period.

  • Wilkinson' thrid trey pulled ODU within four points, 44-40, with nine minutes remaining, but TNU quickly responded by pushing its advantage to double digits for the first time at 50-40.

  • Townsend knocked down a three-pointer to bring the Panthers back within five points, but again, the Trojans were able to hold off the run.

GAME NOTES

  • After shooting over 43 percent in the first half, ODU was held to 7-for-23 shooting in the second half, while the Trojans made 14-of-28 field goals in the final 20 minutes.

  • TNU used its height advantage to enjoy a 40-25 edge on the glass, including an 11-2 mark in offensive rebounds.

  • ODU made 11 three-pointers in the game, giving the team four outings this season with double-digit makes from beyond the arc.
