CANTON, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team could not overcome a slow start in the regular season finale at Malone, falling Saturday afternoon by a final score 77-63.
The Panthers, who entered the contest in a battle for the final two spots in next week's G-MAC Tournament, finish the regular season 5-14 overall and 5-13 in conference play. Malone improves to 14-6 overall and 13-6 in the G-MAC, as the Pioneers have now won seven consecutive games.

Freshman Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) made 5-of-9 shots for 17 points to lead ODU. Szul was 3-for-4 from three-point range and pitched in four rebounds and two steals.

Flirting with a double-double was sophomore Alek West (Sylvania, Ohio). West posted 12 points and team-high marks in rebounds (8) and assists (3).

Senior Matt King (Mason, Ohio) also dished out three helpers, while logging eight points and five rebounds.

Sophomore Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) added nine points, while freshman Mike Knoll (Medina, Ohio) registered a career-best seven points off the bench.

The Panthers found themselves in an early hole, conceding 10 of the first 12 points.

ODU shot under 30 percent in the first half, while the Pioneers were 16-for-29 from the field (.552).

Malone used its full court pressure defensively to build on its first half lead. The Pioneers pushed their advantage to 18 points at the intermission.

Malone scored on its first two possessions out of the break to take its largest lead of the game, 21 points, at 44-23 with 19 minutes remaining.

A 9-0 scoring run, capped by a Szul triple, pulled ODU within 10 points, 59-49, with 9:04 to play.

The Panthers though, could never close their deficit to single digits down the stretch.
