Second Half Scoring Slump Costs Men's Basketball in Loss to No. 23 Findlay

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team led nationally ranked Findlay at the half, but could not overcome a cold shooting second half during a 62-52 setback Monday evening.

INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS

  • Freshman Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio) scored 11 of his team high 16 points in the first half. Szul added five rebounds and two assists.
  • Tallying 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists was sophomore Alek West (Sylvania, Ohio). West was 2-for-4 from deep, giving him multiple three-pointers in four of the past five games.
  • The third Panther in double figures was sophomore Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) with 10 points. Marks also tied West and freshman Mitch Wilkinson (Grand Rapids, Mich.) for the team high with seven rebounds. The sophomore also paced ODU with five assists.
  • To go along with seven boards, Wilkinson pitched in nine points and a team-best two blocked shots. Wilkinson was 4-for-6 from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Findlay held a seven-point advantage eight minutes in, but the Panthers, sparked by a 12-0 run, took a 24-19 five minutes later.
  • ODU rode its momentum into a halftime lead, 32-29. The Panthers shot 50 percent in the first half, making 11-of-22 attempts. ODU was also 6-for-11 from three-point range (.545).
  • The Panthers though, went cold in the second half, making just two of their first 20 field goal attempts. ODU finished the half 8-for-35 (.229).
  • The Oilers used a 10-run to turn a tied game into a 48-38 Findlay lead with 10:51 to play. UF pushed its lead to as many as 14 points in the second half.
  • Ohio Dominican continued to claw closing its deficit to single digits on several occasions late, but a late triple, along with a pair of free throws secured the 10-point win for Findlay.
  • The Panthers blocked seven shots Monday evening, falling one shy of a season-high. ODU also tied a season high with 19 turnovers, with Findlay capitalizing with 18 points on the giveaways.

UP NEXT

  • The Panthers will begin a two-game road stand to close out the regular season on Thursday, Feb. 25. ODU and Walsh are set for tip off at 7:30 p.m., inside the Cecchini Center.
