Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Sophomores Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) and Alek West (Sylvania, Ohio) each poured in 21 points as the Ohio Dominican men's basketball team defeated Lake Erie at home Saturday afternoon, 82-77.
INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS
- West, who set a career high with 17 points on Monday night against Trevecca, reset his personal best mark on Saturday, making 8-of-14 shots. The guard also paced ODU with a season-high nine rebounds, while adding five assists as well.
- Marks joined West for the team high in helpers with five. The sophomore was 7-of-13 from the field, including 6-for-8 from behind the arc. Tying a career high in three-point makes, Marks also collected four rebounds.
- Reaching double figures for the ninth time this season was freshman Zach Szul (Waterville, Ohio). Szul scored seven of his 11 points in the first half, and pitched in eight rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Appearing in his first game in 28 days, senior Matt King (Mason, Ohio) produced nine in just 11 minutes, making three field goals in six tries.
- Freshman Mitch Wilkinson (Grand Rapids, Mich.) was the fourth Panther in double figures, scoring 10 points. Wilkinson also corralled seven rebounds.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Ohio Dominican (5-11, 5-10 G-MAC) used an 11-0 run to take a 13-4 lead less than six minutes into play. The Panthers never trailed after the scoring run, leading for over 35 minutes of game play.
- ODU used another scoring run, 8-2, to push its advantage to double figures for the first time at 21-11, with 10:46 to play in the first half.
- King knocked down a triple with less than 20 seconds left in the first half to give ODU a 37-31 lead at the intermission.
- The Panthers made 8-of-15 three-point attempts in the first half, shooting 53.3 percent. Overall, ODU shot over 50 from deep for the first time in over two years (at Lake Erie, Feb. 7, 2019), finishing 16-for-31 (.516).
- Ohio Dominican made three triples in the first six minutes of the second half, and an 18-8 run pushed the Black & Gold to their largest lead of the night, 17 points, at 58-41, with just under 12 minutes to play.
- Lake Erie though, despite trailing by 17 on two occasions, used a 12-0 spurt to close its deficit to five points, 61-56.
- Leading by just four points, the Panthers received a clutch three-pointer from King as time expired on the shot clock, pushing ODU to a 78-71 advantage with less than 30 seconds remaining.
- Wilkinson made four free throw attempts down the stretch to secure the regular season sweep for ODU over the Storm.
