Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team received a career high 17 points from sophomore Alek West (Sylvania, Ohio), but a 14-5 second half run fueled a 59-55 road win for Trevecca Nazarene Monday night.
INDIVIDUAL NUMBERS
- West scored nine first half points, all in the final seven minutes, and added eight points in the second half for his career scoring night. The sophomore made 7-of-14 shots and was 3-for-6 from beyond the arc. West added a team-high six assists as well five rebounds.
- Sophomore Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) finished with 16 points, also making seven field goal attempts. Marks pitched in four assists and three rebounds.
- Battling a pair of seven-footers down low, junior Caleb Strohmeier (Edwardsville, Ill.) made 5-of-6 shots for 10 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both ODU and Trevecca each shot over 60 percent in the first half, with the Panthers making 15-of-23 attempts (.652).
- The Black & Gold scored the first five points for their largest lead of the contest, but a mid-half scoring run of 11-2 from TNU gave the Trojans a 15-9 lead.
- Both teams led for over eight minutes during the first half and a buzzer-beating jumper from Marks pulled ODU within two points at the break, 36-34.
- The Panthers went cold to start the second half, making four of their first 17 field goal attempts. TNU used a 14-5 run to take its largest lead of the game of nine points, 56-47, with 6:40 to play.
- West went on his own 8-1 scoring run late to pull the Panthers within two points, 57-55, with 1:28 to play.
- ODU would have a chance late, but a shot in the paint went wide left with less than five seconds remaining. TNU calmly sank both free throws to secure the four-point victory.
