Panthers Slay Dragons For First Win Of The Season

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team captured its first victory of the season on Saturday afternoon downing the Tiffin Dragons by the score of 61-57.

ODU (1-5, 1-1) saw three members of its ranks finish in double figures. Guard Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) spearheaded the Black and Gold attack finishing with 16 points. Senior Bailey Williams (Dublin, Ohio) added 15 points in 37 minutes of action and Gabby Stare (Newark, Ohio) contributed 13 points and seven rebounds to the Panther cause.

Both clubs traded three-point shots to begin the game as Sydney Bourquin got Tiffin on the board with a make from beyond the arc and Schlabach answered just moments later. The Dragons opened the game on an 11-3 run and got their lead up to as much as 11 points in the first quarter. Aarion Nichols, Savanah Richards, and Kirsten Williams combined for four points in the opening stanza.

Williams went to work late in the second quarter, orchestrating a six-point scoring run that closed the gap for the hosts to 32-25 at halftime. Stare added 10 points and was perfect from the foul line, going four-of-four.

The Panthers outscored Tiffin by a 21-10 margin in the third quarter thanks in part to Schlabach. The guard was 3-of-6 from the field and 2-of-3 from behind the three-point line. She added three points from the charity stripe to finish with 11 points in the third quarter. Schlabach, along with Williams and freshman Brynn Mullet (Berlin, Ohio) were plus-11 in plus/minus when on the floor together during the third quarter.

ODU finished the game strong as every member of the starting five registered points during the quarter. Camryn Pickerill (Seaman, Ohio) added momentum off the bench as she collected four rebounds and added two assists.

The Black and Gold defense limited Tiffin to 25% shooting from the field and 12.5% from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter to lift them to victory.

FLIP THE CALENDAR

If you can believe it, that's all the home games the Black and Gold will play during the 2021 calendar year. After starting the season in Cedarville, the Black and Gold enjoyed a four-game homestand and will now head on the road to play its next five games away from the friendly confines of Alumni Hall.

SIX IN A ROW

Make it six games in a row that Bailey Williams has scored in double figures. The senior guard is enjoying a career year. Last season she averaged 2.6 PPG, this year that number has swelled to 12.0 PPG.

UP NEXT

ODU heads on the road traveling to Michigan to battle Hillsdale College on Tuesday, December 9. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
