Box Score CEDARVILLE, Ohio – Sophomore Sean Marks (Delaware, Ohio) poured in 22 points, but a three-point barrage by Cedarville led the Yellow Jackets to a 99-72 win over the Ohio Dominican men's basketball team Thursday evening.
Marks scored 10 of the first 14 points for the Panthers (2-3, 2-2 G-MAC) and fell one point shy of his season scoring high (23). The sophomore made 7-of-14 field goal attempts, including 4-for-8 from behind the arc, while also tying freshman Zach Szul (Waterford, Ohio) for the team high in assists with five.
Four Panther players scored in double figures. Sophomore Ethan Haynes (Florence, Ky.) posted 12 points, four rebounds and three assists. Adding 11 points each were senior Matt King (Mason, Ohio) and junior Caleb Strohmeier (Edwardsville, Ill.). The upperclassmen combined for 13 rebounds, including a team-high eight from King.
Sixteen days after going 0-for-15 from behind the arc against the Panthers, Cedarville enjoyed its return to the Callan Athletic Center, going 18-of-28 (.643) from three-point range on Thursday. The Yellow Jackets shot over 56 percent from the field, marking the first ODU opponent of the 2020-21 season to make over half of its field goal attempts.
Cedarville (3-2, 3-2 G-MAC) made four of its first six shots from behind the arc to take a 13-4 lead and force ODU into an early timeout at 15:44. The Yellow Jackets made 10 triples in the first half and led 48-27 at the intermission.
The Panthers conceded seven of the first nine points in the second stanza and were unable to close the deficit under 20 points.
Ohio Dominican finished 26-of-61 from the field, 42.6 percent shooting. The Panthers' 72 points also marked a new season best.
The Black & Gold will look to get back on track at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 23, with a home contest against Tiffin.
