Box Score FINDLAY, Ohio – Junior Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) recorded a double-double and classmate Olivia Fox (Newark, Ohio) tied a season high with 14 points, but the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team could not overcome a poor shooting performance in a 74-63 road loss at Great Midwest rival Findlay on Thursday evening.
The Panthers made only 21-of-69 field goal attempts for a season-low .304 shooting percentage. ODU was able to make 10 shots from behind the arc and went 11-for-11 at the foul line to stay within striking distance, but saw its season-best five-game winning streak come to an end.
Troyer led the team with 15 points, while her season-high 10 rebounds marked her first double-double of the season and fourth of her career. The junior also tallied a season-best five steals, as well as four assists.
Fox was a perfect six-of-six at the charity stripe and made four-of-eight field goal attempts to tie her season scoring high, which she set in each of the first two games of the season. Fox also corralled four boards.
Leading ODU with 11 rebounds was sophomore Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio). Kern drained three triples in the fourth quarter to give her nine points as well. Classmate Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) had four makes from deep for 12 points, while also pacing the Panthers with five assists. Off the bench, senior Emily Thomas (Pickerington, Ohio) added five points and four assists.
The Panthers (14-11, 9-6 G-MAC) made only three of their 14 shots in the first quarter and found themselves trailing 15-7 after one period of play. ODU though, opened the second stanza on an 11-0 run to take a 18-15 advantage.
The Black & Gold's three-point lead though would tie its largest of the evening. Findlay's first field goal of the second quarter did not come until the 4:39 mark, but the Oilers rallied to take a 28-27 lead into the intermission.
Findlay then opened the second half with eight of the first 10 points, making its first six shot attempts for a 43-29 edge. Fox scored six of ODU's 12 points in the frame, but the Panthers still trailed by double digits heading into the fourth, 48-39.
The two sides combined for 50 points in the final frame, which was ODU's best shooting quarter of the night at .421 (8-19). The Panthers scored eight of the first 10 points in the quarter to cut their deficit to three, 50-47, with 8:39 remaining.
The Oilers (13-11, 9-5 G-MAC) though, responded with eight consecutive points to push their lead back to 11 points at 58-47, with just over seven minutes left to play. ODU could only pull within five points late, as a Kern triple made the score 68-63 with 55 seconds remaining. However, UF registered the final six points of the game to secure the 74-63 decision.
Findlay held a slight 41-36 edge on the glass, but ODU did turn 16 offensive rebounds into 13 second chance points. The Oilers, who shot 48.2 percent from the field, also enjoyed a 42-20 advantage in paint points.
The Panthers will look to bounce back during their final road contest of the regular season, a 6:30 p.m. tip against Ursuline on Thursday, Feb. 20.
