Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio) surpassed 1,000 career points at Ohio Dominican and the women's basketball team posted its highest scoring total of the season in a 99-68 home win over Salem Wednesday evening.
The Panthers never trailed in the contest, giving them two straight games and 80 consecutive minutes either tied or ahead on the scoreboard. The non-conference win improves ODU to 7-9 overall, while Salem falls to 3-12 with the loss.
Fisher was one of four Panthers in double figures Wednesday night, and with a three-point field goal midway through the second quarter she recorded her 1,000th career point as a Panther. The senior finished the contest with 17 points, giving her 1,009 points at ODU and 1,029 career points – including her one season at NCAA Division I Nebraska-Omaha. She is the 24th player in school history to reach the scoring plateau and the first since 2016-17, when Madi Rittinger and Lauren Bates both hit the 1,000-point mark.
To go along with her 17 points, Fisher tied a career high with eight assists, and she added four rebounds and made three triples. Also finishing with three treys and 17 points was sophomore Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio), who pitched in five assists off the bench as well.
Leading the Black & Gold in scoring was junior Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) with 23 points. Troyer also registered a season-high nine rebounds, and tied season-best marks in assists and steals with four apiece.
ODU used a sizeable edge on the glass to aid its cause against the Tigers. The Panthers finished with 62 total rebounds, which is a new school record during the program's NCAA Division II era. The only other 60-rebound performance during the stretch came at home against Alderson Broaddus on Nov. 11, 2016. Thirty-two offensive boards resulted in 36 second chance points for ODU on Wednesday, which also aided a 58-30 edge in paint points.
Leading the rebounding charge was sophomore Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio), who finished with a season high and tied a career high with 15 rebounds. Kern also had the team's last 15-rebound effort, a contest against Ursuline on Feb. 9, 2019. The sophomore, who had double-digit rebounds in the first half, pitched in seven total points and tied a personal-best with two blocks.
Recording her third double-double of the season was senior Brittleigh Macaulay (Big Prairie, Ohio). Macaulay finished with 13 points and 13 rebounds, with the latter setting a new career-best. Classmate Hannah Clark (Glenmont, Ohio) flirted with a double-double as well, posting eight points and seven rebounds. The two seniors also combined for 16 offensive boards.
The Panthers' five starters combined for 68 points, 48 rebounds and 17 assists against Salem. The team's 26 assists set a new season high as well.
With the game tied at seven-all, the Black & Gold used a 7-0 scoring run, including five points from Fisher, to go in front 14-7 with 6:31 to play in the first quarter. ODU led 25-14 at the end of the first quarter and an 11-0 scoring spurt, spanning the end of the first and start of the second period, gave the squad its largest lead of the half, 16 points, at 30-14.
Despite only shooting 33 percent in the first half, ODU used 19 offensive rebounds and 18 second chance points to capture a 42-30 advantage at the intermission.
The Panthers then had a scorching shooting quarter from the field in the third, where they shot 62.5 percent (15-24) to put the game out of reach. ODU's 31 third quarter points are its highest in a single 10-minute period this season. It also led to 57 second half points, which is a season best.
After leading 73-46 at the end of the third quarter, a 5-0 mini-run gave the Panthers their largest lead of the night, 35 points, at 97-62, with just under three minutes remaining. ODU added a layup down the stretch for the 99-68 victory, its first 30-plus point win since a 40-point margin -- 99-59-- versus Ohio Valley on Jan. 25, 2018.
The Panthers, winners of back-to-back games, will return to Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at 3 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 11, when they host Hillsdale inside Alumni Hall.
