Box Score VIENNA, W. Va. – The Ohio Dominican women's basketball team cruised to a 92-58 victory at Ohio Valley Thursday evening for the squad's sixth win in the past seven outings.
The Panthers finished the month of January with a 6-2 record, and Thursday's triumph improved them to 11-10 overall (6-5 Great Midwest). ODU's 92 points are its second most of the season, as the team totaled 99 points versus Salem on Jan. 8.
A balanced offensive attack saw 10 different Panthers score, with six players recording eight or more points. Senior Brittleigh Macaulay (Big Prairie, Ohio) led the way by tying a career high with 20 points on 9-of-13 shooting. Macaulay also corralled five rebounds.
Netting 6-of-12 shots for 15 points was senior Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio). Fisher added two assists, while also tying a season high with four steals. Sophomores Kennedy Schlabach (Millersburg, Ohio) and Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio) were in double figures in the scoring column as well. Schlabach was 5-for-8 from the field and finished with 14 points and three steals. Kern made all three of her shots from behind the arc, totaling 11 points, while also leading ODU with eight rebounds and three assists.
Logging eight points each were juniors Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) and Amanda Schroeder (Dayton, Ohio). Troyer pitched in with four rebounds and a pair of steals, while Schroeder, who came off the bench, tied her ODU career high with six rebounds.
With 5:17 remaining in the first quarter and the score tied at 12-all, the Black & Gold finished the frame on a 13-1 run to capture a 25-13 lead. Macaulay and Fisher combined for nine points during the quarter-ending scoring spurt.
Ohio Valley (2-14, 1-11 G-MAC) was held without a field goal until the 6:14 mark of the second quarter, as its first make from the field in nearly 10 minutes of game action made the score 33-18 in favor of ODU. The Panthers then closed the first half on a 14-2 run to take a 49-25 advantage into the break.
Ohio Dominican led by as many as 39 points in the third quarter and never saw its lead go below 30 points in the fourth quarter. The Panthers outscored the Fighting Scots 43-33 in the second half to secure its largest margin of victory of the season, 34 points, at 92-58.
ODU shot 35-of-59 for a season-best field goal percentage of .593. The Panthers have now shot over 43 percent in their past four outings. ODU also made 7-of-16 shots from behind the arc and was 15-for-18 at the foul line Thursday.
The Black & Gold also enjoyed a 38-24 edge on the glass and turned 21 OVU turnovers into 26 points. ODU added a 24-9 advantage in bench points as well.
The Panthers will next be in action at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 1, when they host Tiffin for a G-MAC contest.
