Box Score

By Sports Information Intern Ralph Schudel

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team was defeated by the visiting Northwood Timberwolves 1-0 during Thursday's non-conference clash on a humid evening at Panther Stadium.

The Timberwolves broke the deadlock in the first quarter hour as Juliana Paoletti pounced on a loose ball on a broken play in front of the ODU goal giving her team a 1-0 advantage. The Panthers tried desperately to answer quickly as they outshot the Timberwolves 5-4 in the first half.

ODU began the second half on the front foot challenging the Timberwolves defense. Midfielder Taylor Rankin (Dearborn, Michigan) and forward Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) combined for several scoring opportunities but couldn't best Northwood goalkeeper Bridget Adams who made four saves.

Goalkeeper Cecilia Kuntz (Berlin, Germany) made two saves on the evening, her best coming in the 70th minute. The backstop made a diving save to her left to keep the Panthers within striking distance, keeping comeback hopes alive.

ODU tried its best to mount a strong comeback attempt in the dying embers of the game, outshooting Northwood 7-2 in the second half. Unfortunately, the comeback falls short as Northwoods holds on to claim the 1-0 victory.

The loss drops the Panthers to 2-1 on the season.

It's a quick turnaround for ODU as they welcome the Ashland Eagles to Panther Stadium on Sunday September 15th. Kickoff for the game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
