Softball Sweeps Ohio Valley to Remain Perfect in G-MAC Play

VIENNA, W. Va. – Ohio Dominican's softball team swept Ohio Valley to remain perfect at 14-0 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference with an 11-2 win in five innings in game one and a 6-0 win in game two.

In game one, five different Panthers had two RBI's and the Panthers jumped on the Scots with eight runs in the first inning. Kristen Bales (Pickerington, Ohio) began the scoring for ODU as she reached on an error by the second baseman that brought around Carson Hackerd (Frankfort, Indiana). Cameron Barber (Powell, Ohio) then singled into left field to bring around Bales and Kelly Mix (Baltimore, Ohio). Taylor Farmer (Mt. Blanchard, Ohio) then doubled to left center to bring around Brooklyn Rayburn (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) and Barber. The scoring in the first ended with Bales singling that scored Hackerd.

ODU would tack on three runs in the third capped by Landry Slider's (Stow, Ohio) double that brought around Aubrey Rolon (Hilliard, Ohio) and Keirah Smetzer (Ashland, Ohio) making the score 11-0.

OVU would score a pair of runs in the bottom half of the third before Sydney Long (Ashland, Ohio) finished the game with a pair of perfect innings.

Long finished the game along three hits giving up just two earned runs with six strikeouts and a walk.

After a scoreless first inning to begin game two, Farmer blasted her eighth homerun of the year to put the Panthers on the board with a 1-0 lead.

In the third, the Panthers opened the game up with three runs as Hackerd led off the inning with her second home run of the year. Later in the inning after a Bales double, a Slider single and Mix being hit by a pitch, Barber walked with the bases loaded to bring Bales in to score and later in the inning Mix scored on a passes ball.

Barber started game two going five innings to earn the win allowing just three hits while striking out seven while not allowing a run or walking anyone. Abby Lamping (Cleves, Ohio) came in to finish the final two innings allowing just one hit with two strikeouts.

ODU is back on the field Saturday, April 13 at Trevecca Nazarene with the first game coming at 12 p.m. CT in Nashville.
