Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Senior Alexa Fisher (Powell, Ohio) scored a team-high 21 points but the Ohio Dominican women's basketball team suffered an 88-72 setback to Great Midwest rival, Walsh, at home Monday afternoon.
Fisher had 13 of her team-high scoring total in the second half, finishing the contest 8-of-15 from the field. The senior added an ODU-best four assists, as well as three rebounds. Junior Angela Troyer (Sugarcreek, Ohio) poured in eight of her 12 points in the first half. Troyer shot five-of-eight from the field and recorded four rebounds.
Drawing her first start of the season was sophomore Alli Kern (Waterford, Ohio), who finished with nine points and 10 rebounds. Kern's rebounding performance was her second double-digit effort of the season.
Off the bench, junior Olivia Fox (Newark Ohio) made six-of-eight attempts for 12 points. Classmate Amanda Schroeder (Dayton, Ohio) pitched in nine points as a reserve, making four-of-six field goal tries. As a team, ODU enjoyed a 26-10 edge in bench points.
Walsh (9-2, 3-0 G-MAC), who is receiving votes in the national coaches poll, held an early one-point advantage, but a 12-4 scoring run by the Panthers but them in front 19-12, thanks to a trey from Troyer. ODU led after 10 minutes of play, 21-16.
The Black & Gold tied their largest lead of the game, seven points, at 23-16, with a layup from Troyer in the opening minute of the second quarter. The Cavaliers however, responded with an 8-0 run to recapture the lead, 24-23. Walsh then extended its margin to 10 points by halftime at 46-36.
Trailing by double-digit for most of the third quarter, the Panthers did close the gap to four points, 53-49, with 3:43 remaining in the period. An 8-0 run by ODU was capped by a layup from senior Brittleigh Macaulay (Big Prairie, Ohio).
Walsh however, scored quick eight points to help push its advantage back to double digits by the end of the third quarter. The Cavaliers then outscored ODU 23-17 in the fourth quarter to engineer the 88-72 victory.
The Panthers shot 46.6 percent (27-58) from the field, but was bested by Walsh's shooting clip of .514 (36-70). The Cavaliers were also 10-of-20 from three-point range, while ODU was held to a 3-for-14 performance from behind the arc. The Black & Gold did hold a 35-31 edge in total rebounds.
Ohio Dominican will break from G-MAC play when they close out 2019 with two games this weekend in Florida. The Panthers begin the stretch at noon, Friday, Dec. 20, at Nova Southeastern.
