COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team defeated Malone 2-1 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play on Saturday evening. Mother Nature did her part in making proceedings unpredictable as torrential downpours occurred throughout the match, challenging both teams.
Forward Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) broke the deadlock in just the ninth minute. Midfielder Katlyn Jamiel (Wilmington, Ohio) found her way into the penalty area attempting to head a cross on the near side by midfielder Lindsay Buten (Cincinnati, Ohio).
Jamiel's header was bobbled by Malone goalkeeper Haleigh Seman and the junior forward buried the rebound in the back of the uncontested net.
Buck doubled the Panther lead in the 23rd minute. A fortuitous bounce off midfielder Madeline Reimbold (Fort Wayne, Indiana) landed the ball at the forward's feet. Buck was in behind the defense for a one-on-one opportunity with Seman. She took a touch and buried her chance with her right foot to extend the lead to 2-0.
Malone answered in the 47th minute as Kelley Malley cut the lead in half with a shot from close distance.
Despite outshooting the Pioneers 13-6 the Panthers couldn't extend their lead but held on to earn the 2-1 victory over Malone. The win advances the Panthers to 9-5 (7-3) on the season and punches their ticket into the G-MAC postseason tournament.
ODU returns to action Thursday, October 31 to take on Kentucky Wesleyan. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 p.m.
