TIFFIN, Ohio – Ohio Dominican women's soccer continued its winning ways by collecting a 2-0 victory over the Tiffin Dragons on Thursday at Paradiso Fields. With the win the Panthers improve to 6-3 (4-1) on the season and remain in contention for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference regular-season title.
Despite starting the match on even footing, it didn't take long for ODU to flex its offensive might. The Panthers outshot the Dragons by a 21-3 margin, forcing TU goalkeeper Nahomi Lopez to make 11 saves.
After an evenly matched first half, ODU claimed the advantage just after the half-hour mark and wouldn't look back. Forward Samantha Buck (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) broke the deadlock in the 30th minute, heading home a cross from the near side by midfielder Emily Wittekind (Cincinnati, Ohio) to give the Panthers the 1-0 advantage.
Just ten minutes into the second half forward Callan Myers (Hillsburo, Ohio) doubled the ODU lead. A tireless effort from the forward broke down the Dragons defense, allowing her a shot from inside the penalty area that snuck past the keeper Lopez.
Goalkeeper Cecilia Kuntz (Berlin, Germany) collected her third clean sheet of the season. The first-year player made three saves in route to the shutout. Her quiet afternoon was due in part to the stellar defensive showing put forth from her backline consisting of Cheyenne Story (Canfield, Ohio), Hannah Knobloch (Hilliard, Ohio), and Morgan Reeb (Canal Winchester, Ohio).
The Panthers return to action Saturday, October 12 as they travel to Northwest Ohio once again for a date with the Findlay Oilers. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at DeHaven Field.
