Saginaw Valley State Slips Past Women's Soccer, 2-1

Box Score

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. — Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team dropped a closely-contested, 2-1 decision to Saginaw Valley State in a non-conference match on Friday afternoon.

The Cardinals (2-1-0, 0-0-0 GLIAC) held a slight, 7-5 advantage in shots on goal. Both squads recorded eight second half shots and seven corner kicks.

ODU (2-2-0, 1-0-0 G-MAC) pressed SVSU in the second half. Trailing 2-0 in the 71st minute, junior Allie Atkinson (Ontario, Ohio) scored from 35 yards out while the ODU forwards pressured SVSU keeper Isabel Bauer at the same time as the shot, causing the ball to bounce over her head and into the goal, cutting the Panther deficit to just 2-1.

Ohio Dominican could not find the equalizer though, falling by a final score of 2-1 in its first road match of the season.

Atkinson notched her first goal of the year in the loss and five different Panthers recorded shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) recorded four saves in just over 61 minutes of action. Senior keeper Kelsey Harris (Mason, Ohio) finished with one save in 28 minutes of play.

The Panthers continue their road trip this weekend with a match at Northwood on Sunday at 2:30 p.m.
