Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio — A goal in the eighth minute by junior Alli Pavlik (Cortland, Ohio) and a penalty kick goal in the 60th minute by sophomore Susan D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, Ohio) was enough for Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team to earn a 2-0 victory against Lake Erie on Friday night at Panther Stadium.
The Panthers (5-6-4, 4-3-2 GLIAC) outshot the Storm (7-8-0, 2-7-0 GLIAC) 23-16 and held a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal. ODU also held a 5-2 edge in corner kicks for the match.
Pavlik notched her sixth goal of the year, taking six shots with three shots on goal for the contest. D'Isidoro scored her second goal of 2016, finishing with three shots overall. Senior Kelly Johnson (Berea, Ohio) recorded four shots, one on goal.
At goalkeeper, sophomore Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) went the distance, playing all 90 minutes for the Panthers and finishing with five saves in the shutout victory.
ODU struck early, scoring in the eighth minute after a failed attempt by Lake Erie to clear the ball from the box resulted in Pavlik striking the ball to the back of the net, giving ODU a 1-0 lead.
Lake Erie pressed the Panther defense in the first half with 11 shots, but was unable to find the goal, as Ohio Dominican went into the break with a 1-0 lead.
In the 60th minute, senior Emily Riviello (Huber Heights, Ohio) was fouled in the box by the Lake Erie goalkeeper, resulting in a penalty kick for D'Isidoro, who put the ball to the top right corner of the goal to give the Panthers a 2-0 lead.
Ohio Dominican's defense held strong in the second half, limiting Lake Erie to just five shots to earn the victory, 2-0.
ODU will be back in action on Sunday, October 23 at 3:30 p.m. against Walsh, which will also be Senior Day for the women's soccer class of 2016. Eight seniors will be recognized for ODU, and fans are also encouraged to bring canned food items as a part of the October Food Drive at Ohio Dominican.
