Panthers Shoot Over 60 Percent En Route to 93-54 Win Over Northwood

Box Score

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican men's basketball team shot over 60 percent and set a new season high in three pointers en route to a 93-54 victory over GLIAC North foe Northwood on Saturday afternoon.

The win gave the Panthers (5-9, 2-6 GLIAC) their second consecutive conference win for just the second time since joining the GLIAC. Both wins came over GLIAC North opponents with a margin of victory of at least 12 points in each contest. It was also ODU's first win over Northwood (9-5, 5-3 GLIAC) in seven tries.

Ohio Dominican finished the contest 39-of-64, as the 60.9 percent shooting performance was the highest this season and the first time the Panthers shot over 60 percent since an 88-77 win over Notre Dame (OH) on February 27, 2013.

The Black and Gold extended its strong shooting to behind the three point line, making 14-of-27 attempts. The 14 makes is the most three point field goals an Ohio Dominican has had in the NCAA Division II era.

ODU shared the ball well throughout, recording a season high 27 assists on 39 made field goals. This was the first time in 11 games the Panthers posted at least 20 helpers, with the last coming at the end of November in a 104-69 win over Silver Lake.

On a balanced scoring day, where five Panthers scored in double figures, senior Chad Nelson (Columbus, OH) scored 16 points to lead the team in scoring for the third time in four games. This is just the second time this year where five players scored at least 10 points, and the first time since the opening game of the season.

Sophomore Adam Cytlak (Van Buren, OH) drained his first four three point attempts, finishing the contest with a career high 15 points. Cytlak also dished out four helpers.

For the second time this season freshman Michael Simon (Hilliard, OH) made all five of his field goal attempts, scoring 12 points off the bench.

Both Trent Weaver (Columbus, OH) and Ronnie Williams (Columbus, OH) finished with 11 points. Williams led ODU in assists with six, while Weaver has now grabbed at least five rebounds in every game this season.

The Panthers led for the first six minutes before a 7-0 Northwood run gave the Timberwolves a 17-13 advantage with 11:42 remaining in the opening half.

Ohio Dominican would respond with the next 17 points, holding NU scoreless for over five minutes, taking a 30-17 lead with 6:41 left until halftime. The Panthers took a 42-28 advantage into the intermission.

The Black and Gold came out of the break making eight of their first 10 shots to extend the lead to 61-32 with 14:20 remaining. ODU would stretch its lead out to as many as 39 on two separate occasions, including the final margin.

Northwood finished the contest with just a 23 percent shooting performance, as the Panther defense held the Timberwolves to 18.9 percent shooting in the second half.

All 14 players in uniform made an appearance with 12 recording at least one field goal make. Sophomore Mike DeLeon (Powell, OH) recorded team highs in rebounds, eight, and blocks with four.

The Panthers will look to ride the current winning streak at 7:30 p.m. next Thursday, Jan. 14, when they travel to Findlay.
