Box Score HOUGHTON, Mich. – Michigan Tech went on a 20-3 first quarter run and Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team could not recover as the Panthers fell 63-44 in GLIAC play Saturday afternoon at SDC Gym.
The Panthers (8-3, 3-2 GLIAC) shot just 29.3 percent (17-of-58) from the floor in the game. ODU also committed 25 turnovers.
The Huskies (6-3, 4-1 GLIAC) led 22-7 at the end of the first quarter and 41-21 at intermission as MTU made 17-of-31 (54.5 percent) from the field in the opening 20 minutes, and the Panthers could not draw closer in the third quarter.
Junior forward Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio) scored 10 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her second consecutive double-double and third of the season. Junior guard Lauren Bates (Hilliard, Ohio) led ODU with 11 points and senior forward Melissa Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio) led all players with 13 rebounds (seven offensive).
The Panthers had a 50-37 rebounding edge. It's the fourth time ODU has grabbed 50 or more rebounds in a game this season.
Sophomore Sarah Futscher (Wilder, Ky.) and freshman Cayla Bensman (Anna, Ohio) each scored seven points off the bench for ODU.
Ohio Dominican returns to action at 3 p.m. Sunday at Northern Michigan.
