Box Score JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team would pick up its first victory on the season as they defeated Carson-Newman on the road Friday night by a final score of 2-1.
With the score tied at 1-1 in the early stages of the second half, the Panthers (1-2-0) would get a goal from senior Brooke Ringel (Columbus, OH). Ringel would score her first collegiate goal off a corner kick in the 55th minute.
Senior Summer Bourcier (Mansfield, OH) would record the assist on the Ringel goal as her corner kick weaved through the crowd to allow Ringel to poke in what would be the game winner.
ODU would be first to score in the match as sophomore Ashley Blake (Hilliard, OH) recorded her first goal of the season. Blake would find the back of the net after receiving volley touches, which sent the ball past the defense from sophomore Allison Pavlik (Cortland, OH) and senior Lauren Pratt (West Chester, OH).
The Panthers would score in the 10th minute of the match and then hold their lead for the remainder of the opening session.
The Eagles (2-1-0) would pressure the ODU defense early in the second half, and would score in the 46th minute to tie the match at 1-1.
Sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Harris (Mason, OH) would make seven saves in the 90 minute frame, just allowing the one goal.
Carson-Newman would hold an 18-8 advantage in shots for the match, as well as winning the shots on goal battle, 8-4.
Blake and Pavlik would each record two shots for the match, as Pavlik lead the team with shots on target with two.
The Panthers will continue their road trip to open the season as they face Tusculum on Sunday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Pioneer Field.
