Box Score COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three second half goals pushed Ohio Dominican's men's soccer team past GLIAC rival Walsh, 3-0 on Friday afternoon at Panther Stadium.
The Panthers (1-11-2, 1-10-1 GLIAC) ended a winless streak which dated back to last season with three goals in a 20 minute span. The Cavaliers fall to 3-12-0 overall and 1-11-0 in the conference.
Freshman Ryan Kasprzak (Hilliard, OH) started the scoring for ODU with a goal on a penalty shot in the 70th minute. Kasprzak beat the Walsh goalkeeper to the top left corner with his shot to give the Panthers the lead at 1-0.
Just four minute later, freshman Tyler Thomas (Granville, OH) posted a shot that would be saved, but junior Shane Facemyer (Sunbury, OH) cleaned up the rebound, scoring his first goal of the season giving the Black and Gold a 2-0 advantage.
In the final minute of the match, freshman Jorge Aldalla (Whitehall, OH) added another insurance goal as he received a pass from Kasprzak, finishing from 20 yards out.
In his first start between the pipes for the Black and Gold, sophomore Robby Frye (Cincinnati, OH) earned his first collegiate victory, making four saves, as he along with the rest of the Panther defense shutout the Cavalier offense.
Though the first 45 minute session played to a scoreless draw, ODU held a 15-3 advantage in shot attempts. The Panthers would outshoot Walsh 27-11 for the match, holding a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal. This was the first time ODU recorded over 20 shots this season, and was the highest total since a 3-0 win over Walsh at home on September 26, 2014, when the Panthers posted 28 attempts.
Junior Tanner Ebright (Pickerington, OH) posted a season high six shots in the match, with two coming on goal. Kasprzak added five attempts, recording a team high four shots on goal. Facemyer, along with classmate Michael Fragoulis (Chios, OH) each pitched in four shot attempts.
The corner kicks for the match played out to an 8-8 draw, while Walsh recorded 13 fouls to ODU's 12. Kasprazak now leads the Panthers with 11 points on the season after recording his team leading fifth goal and his first career assist. He now sits second in school history in most goals in a season by a new comer since 2008. Aldalla moves into third on the team in total points with his goal.
The Panthers will look to build on their momentum when they welcome Malone for a 2 p.m. kickoff on Sunday, October 25, at Panther Stadium.
