Box Score NORTH CANTON, Ohio – A late first half goal from senior Summer Bourcier (Mansfield, Ohio) was enough to lift Ohio Dominican's women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over host Walsh and guarantee the Panthers a bid into the GLIAC Tournament.
ODU improved to 8-6 (7-2 GLIAC) with three regular season conference matches left and are tied for third in the GLIAC standings. This is the fifth straight year that the Panthers will play in the GLIAC Tournament – every year they have been eligible to do so in the conference.
With just under four minutes left in the opening stanza, Bourcier headed in a pass from freshman Meghan Martella (Cincinnati, Ohio) to account for the lone tally of the match. It was the first game-winner in Bourcier's career and the second assist for Martella this fall.
Walsh (5-6-3, 3-5-1 GLIAC) managed just one shot in the entire second half, and freshman Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, Ohio) made the save eight minutes into the period. The Cavaliers also had just one corner kick in the final 35 minutes of the half.
ODU had a 15-6 advantage in total shots, as sophomore Allison Pavlik (Cortland, Ohio) and junior Kelly Johnson (Berea, Ohio) each squeezed off three shots apiece in the victory.
Wierzbicki improved to 4-3 on the year as she made three saves. This was her second shutout of the season.
Ohio Dominican plays host to Lake Erie at 6 p.m. Friday at Panther Stadium.
