COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio Dominican women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 match to non-conference opponent California (Pa.) on Thursday night at Panther Stadium.

The Panthers (7-6-0, 6-2-0 GLIAC) fall to 1-4 in matches outside of the GLIAC this season. The Vulcans improve to 7-5-3 overall (6-4-3 PSAC).

Trailing early in the second half, junior Emily Riviello (Huber Heights, OH) would find the back of the net off a pass from junior Kelly Johnson (Berea, OH) to tie the match at 1-1 in the 53rd minute.

CAL U opened the scoring with a goal at 19:10 off an ODU turnover, as Selena Fushimi-Karns beat freshman goalkeeper Marissa Wierzbicki (Powell, OH) to the left side.

Just 30 seconds into the second half, the Panthers had a scoring opportunity as they were fouled inside the 18 yard box by a CAL U defender. Junior Kethryn Mattingly (Beavercreek, OH) was unable to capitalize on the penalty shot, as her attempt went high.

The Vulcans scored what would be the game-winning goal in the 73rd minute off a corner kick played to the top of the 18 yard box and then into the 6 yard box. ODU recorded three of the final four shots in the match but were unable to find the tying goal.

The Panthers outshot CAL U 21-9 for the match, while also holding a 9-4 advantage in shots on goal. Sophomore Allison Pavlik (Cortland, OH) paced the Panthers with five shot attempts, while freshman Susan D'Isidoro (Twinsburg, OH) added three shots. Four other players recorded multiple shot attempts for the match.

ODU will return to conference action at 1 p.m. on Sunday, when they travel to Walsh with an opportunity to lock a spot in the GLIAC tournament.
