Box Score CANTON, Ohio – Red hot shooting by the Malone men's basketball team was too much for Ohio Dominican to overcome as the Panthers fell 81-67 in GLIAC play on Saturday.
The Pioneers shot 54.7 percent in the game (29-of-53), compared to 38.6 percent for ODU (22-of-57).
Freshman Shemar Waugh (Columbus, Ohio) scored 14 points, his second most in a game this season, along with a season-best four steals. Junior Trent Weaver (Hilliard, Ohio) scored 13 points and had seven boards, and junior Jordan Cowgill (Worthington, Ohio) had nine points and a career-high nine rebounds.
Freshman Ronnie Williams (Columbus, Ohio) chipped in with 11 points and classmate Adam Cytlak (Van Buren, Ohio) scored nine points as well.
Malone jumped to a 22-14 lead in the first half, but a three by Cytlak, a Mike DeLeon (Columbus, Ohio) layup and another triple from Cytlak would knot the game at 22 with 6:25 to play in the first half. Malone scored the next six points, but the Panthers hung close and trailed 33-28 at the break.
The Pioneers hit 14-of-24 shots from the field in the first half (58.3 percent) and had a 15-8 edge in rebounding in the first 20 minutes.
Malone continued its hot shooting in the second half as the Pioneers scored 48 points after intermission. ODU trailed 48-39 with 12:40 left after a Weaver layup, but Malone answered with an 11-1 run to take control of the game.
ODU committed just seven turnovers, its second fewest in a game this year.
Ohio Dominican returns home for a 7:30 p.m. game Thursday against Ashland in Alumni Hall.
