The Ohio Dominican women's tennis team moved to 2-1 on the season with a solid road performance on Thursday afternoon in Houghton, Michigan. The Panthers took 2-of-3 doubles courts on their way to a 6-3 win over Michigan Tech.
Doubles play saw ODU take early leads on courts two and three and claim the early match advantage. Anita Girizd (Sr./Ada, Serbia) and Ana Pico (So./A Corona, Spain) gained control from the beginning, winning 8-1 on court three. On court two, Regina Camberos (Jr./San Luis Potosi, Mexico) and Alejandra Gonzalez (So./Caracas, Venezuela) earned their first doubles win of the season with an 8-2 win.
In singles action, the Panthers found the Huskies back in the match, winning on court one to even the match score at 2-2. Pico earned her third consecutive singles win on court three with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 win to give ODU a 3-2 lead. After the Huskies evened the match at 3-3, the Black and Gold responded by winning the remaining courts in straight sets. Gabriela Bowe (Fr./Freeport, Bahamas) earned a 6-2, 6-3 win on court; while Gonzalez took court five, 6-1, 6-0 to bring secure the win for the visitors. Camberos finished off the scoring for the Panthers with a 6-1, 6-0 win on court six.
The Panthers return to action tomorrow as they travel to Sault Saint Marie, Michigan for a GLIAC match-up with Lake Superior State University. The match is set to begin at 10 a.m.
