Box Score INDIANAPOLIS – Senior guard Micaela Liddane (Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.) hit a desperation three at the end of regulation, but Ohio Dominican's women's basketball team couldn't complete the comeback at Indianapolis, falling 77-72 in overtime Saturday.
With the setback, the Panthers fell to 2-3 on the year, while the Greyhounds improved to 1-3.
ODU trailed by as much as 11 points early in the second half, but the Panthers responded quickly. Sophomore Kayla Cook (Columbus, Ohio) and freshman Megan Eyre (Fayetteville, Ohio) each hit threes to give ODU a 50-49 lead with 12:41 to play and a layup by sophomore Madi Rittinger (Dayton, Ohio) kept the Panthers tied with Indy at 59-59 with 6:41 left.
Consecutive jumpers by freshman Darian Rose (Fort Loramie, Ohio) and senior Kacee Hockenberry (Haviland, Ohio) put ODU in front 63-61 with 3:02 left, but the Panthers would go scoreless over the next three minutes as Indy took a 66-63 lead.
Hockenberry missed a three in the waning seconds, but Liddane grabbed the miss, turned and fired from in front of the ODU bench, sinking the tying three as time expired to send the game to overtime.
The Panthers had a pair of leads in the extra session at 70-68 and 72-70, but did not score over the game's final 2:30 as the Greyhounds took the win.
Hockenberry led ODU with 18 points and Eyre tallied 14 points off the bench. Rittinger chipped in with 13 points and Rose had 12, and junior Melissa Scherpenberg (Cincinnati, Ohio) grabbed 15 rebounds.
The Panthers attempted 18 more shots than Indy but finished 28-of-76 (36.9 percent) from the field. The Greyhounds went 27-of-57 (47.4 percent) from the field.
The Panthers are back home for a 5:30 p.m. tip off against Saginaw Valley in Alumni Hall on Thursday night to begin GLIAC play.
