Baseball Walks Past Glenville State, 16-2

Box Score

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Ohio Dominican's baseball team drew a school-record 13 walks en route to rolling to a a 16-2 victory over Glenville State in a non-conference game Saturday.

With the victory, ODU improved to 2-1, while the Pioneers fell to 0-1.

The Panthers rapped out 13 hits in addition to the 13 walks, with junior Bryan Rudolph (Pickerington, Ohio) and senior Chase Westphal (Brecksville, Ohio) each driving home four runs. Freshman Collin Parcher (Napoleon, Ohio) went 2-for-4 and scored four runs and Phil Jaskot (Upper Arlington, Ohio) had two hits, three runs and three walks to also lead the Panther offense.

Sophomore Daniel Mooney (Wauconda, Ill.) started and went four no-hit innings, striking out five while walking six, and Sean Blackburn (Wadsworth, Ohio) was credited with the win after tossing two scoreless innings. Sophomore Austin Monnin (Napoleon, Ohio) also had a solid appearance, throwing three scoreless innings while fanning three batters.

ODU scored six runs, all with two outs, in the first inning. Parcher singled to right to bring home senior Ryan Rovnak (Poland, Ohio), and Jaskot tripled to right to score sophomore Vince Bartolone (Broadview Heights, Ohio) and Parcher.

Rudolph followed with an RBI single and Westphal smacked a two-run double as the Panthers batted around in the opening frame.

The Panthers erupted again in the fourth, this time plating five runs. Sophomore Kyle Tisdale (Uniontown, Ohio) drilled a two-run double, bringing in Westphal and Rovnak, and after a walk and a hit by pitch loaded the bases, Rudolph cleared them with a three-run double to left to bump the Panther lead to 11-0.

Glenville State scored once in both the fourth and fifth, but ODU answered with four tallies in the sixth. Three walks loaded the bases to start the frame, and Westphal hit his second two-run double of the afternoon. Later, sophomore Kevin Lydic (Dublin, Ohio) scored on a wild pitch, and Westphal would come in on a fielder's choice.

ODU would score its final run on a Pioneer error in the ninth.

The 16 runs are the most the Panthers scored since plating 21 in a victory at Findlay on March 28, 2012, and the 13 walks broke the previous record of 12, which was set twice – during a 12-8 victory at Findlay on that same March day last spring, as well as in the 1996 season against Otterbein.

The Panthers are off until their spring break trip to Orlando, returning to the diamond for a doubleheader against Gannon on Saturday, March 2.
